KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Commission of Inquiry into the controversial Lingam
video clip has given parties until March 3 instead of this Monday to submit
written submissions.
Its secretary Datuk Abdullah Sani told Bernama that the extension was to allow
the parties more time to prepare their submissions.
The commission was set up to investigate the clip allegedly showing a lawyer
brokering judicial appointments over the telephone.
The commission also reminded counsel not to release their submissions to the
media as it wanted to look at them before deciding whether it was necessary for
the parties to make oral submissions.
At the conclusion of the inquiry on Feb 15, the commission gave counsel until
Feb 25 to make their submissions to the five-member panel.
The commission has to submit its report to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan
Zainal Abidin by March 11.
The commission comprising chairman Tan Sri Haidar Mohamed Noor, Tan Sri Steve
Shim Lip Kiong, Datuk Mahadev Shankar, Puan Sri Zaitun Zawiyah Puteh and
Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Khoo Kay Khim heard the inquiry for 17 days from Jan
14.
Twenty-one witnesses were called.
Among the witness who took the stand were former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir
Mohamad, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and former chief
secretary to the government Tan Sri Samsudin Osman.
Three former chief justices – Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim, Tun Mohamed
Dzaiddin Abdullah and Tun Eusoff Chin – also testified at the inquiry.
