Invitation to Members of the Bar to Provide Feedback on Practice-Related Matters PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 15 July 2011 01:04pm
Dear Members of the Malaysian Bar,

Bar Council is deliberating and considering the following matters:

(1)Whether to have a ruling to prohibit law firms from engaging in the business of money lending;
(2)
Whether there should be a ruling requiring advocates and solicitors to report to Bar Council the misconduct of another advocate and solicitor; and
(3)
Whether there should be criteria set for starting a legal practice, ie number of years in practice, etc.

We invite Members of the Bar to share your views.  Send your feedback by email to christina@malaysianbar.org.my by 29 July 2011 (Friday)

Thank you.

Tony Woon Yeow Thong
Secretary
Malaysian Bar

Is there a need for the restrictive measures?
written by Tan Chun Ming, Saturday, July 16 2011 07:04 pm

I am not familiar with these topics but my opinion is that if there is a need to seek public feedback on these areas, there should also be reasons explained for such proposals.

Without the background, it would be hard for us to give feedback.

Just my opinion.

May I be audacious enough to add one more matter to the list, like "For how long can a branch of a law firm be allowed to remain listed with the name of the Solicitor left blank".Could it be due to some computer glitches in not being able to flag it.
