KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 (Bernama) -- "I would like to thank him personally for selecting the police force to continue his career".

These words of appreciation came from Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan for Hon Kah Wei, 27, a former lawyer who decided to quit his job nine months ago to join the police force.

"I was moved by his decision and commitment. He might be getting a higher pay when he was a lawyer, but he is willing to forget it just because of his devotion to the force," he told reporters after attending the passing-out parade and convocation at the Police Training Centre, here today.

Musa said every police trainee should emulate Hon as an inspiring example to succeed in their profession.

Today, Hon, from Teluk Intan, Perak, was one of the 495 police trainees who graduated as Cadet Inspector, and was announced as the best trainee in the academic category.

When met by reporters, Hon, a law graduate from Universiti Malaya, said he had no regrets in giving up his previous job.

"Since I was small, my dream is to become a policeman and due to some unavoidable circumstances, I became a lawyer last year. But every night I prayed that one day I would be a policeman and get to meet Tan Sri Musa Hassan in person... he is my idol.

"Today, my dream became a reality and words can't describe my happiness," he said, adding that he wanted to be an investigation officer with the Narcotics Department.

Hon, an only child, said he dedicated the 'Best Trainee' award "to my mother who has sacrificed a lot in giving me the best of everything in life".
