KUANTAN:
Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Fu Ah Kiow asked all parties to refrain from speculating on the video clip of a lawyer allegedly brokering the appointment of judges.

He said yesterday it was unwise to make assumptions or draw conclusions without solid evidence.

“The video clip merely shows a telephone conversation between the lawyer and another person. We don’t know exactly what they are talking about.

“Therefore, we should not arrive at a conclusion before police conclude their investigations,” he said after handing fishing nets and safety jackets to fishermen at Kampung Seri Chempaka here.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said on Friday that he viewed the video clip seriously and asked police to investigate it as soon as possible.

The video clip bore a story that could harm the good name of the country’s judicial system, said Abdullah, who is also Internal Security Minister.

On action taken against three senior police officers – two sacked and another demoted – for breaking the rules, Fu said it reflected the seriousness of maintaining discipline in the police force.

“Everyone, regardless of rank and position cannot escape investigation if found to have violated the law.”

The Prime Minister announced the punishment meted out against the trio after chairing the police commission meeting on Friday.

One was sacked for abuse of power and another for taking another wife without permission. The demoted officer was censured, also for marrying without permission. – Bernama

Set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry
written by Kelvin Ng Sin Huat, Sunday, September 23 2007 11:50 am

Dear Honorable Deputy Minister,

I beg you to do something to stop all these speculations by pressing for a setting up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate the matter. The public has no confidence in the police to carry out such investigation and it would only fuel more speculations if the government of the day leaves it to the hands of PDRM.

So, help us not to speculate by taking proper action and not only making proper (or improper) press statements!

If you put the following question in the coming PMR exam, you will get the correct answers.

Q: View the video, then choose from the following a response that does not insult your intelligence:

A. Do not speculate, there is no solid evidence, forget what you have watched, tune to Astro instead.

B. Do not speculate, we don't know what the conversation was about. It could have been about the bird flu.

C. Do not speculate, we will let our Police investigate the Judiciary. Correct, the Police that you all have cried out (until you lose your voice) for an IPCMC to clean up.

D. Do not speculate, we are forming a Commission of Inquiry comprising persons of independence & integrity to get to the bottom of the episode.

MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DO
written by Stephen Tan Ban Cheng, Sunday, September 23 2007 10:35 pm

My dear Kelvin

In the physical sciences, they call what you are doing the law of imitation. I just call it "monkey see, monkey do." They don't know why they are doing it. They just do!

Cheers to you, my friend.
