KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25 (Bernama) -- The Royal Commission of Inquiry will decide on
Monday the relevancy to call Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the younger brother of
Datuk V.K.Lingam as witnesses in the inquiry.
The five-member panel headed by chairman Tan Sri Haidar Mohamed Noor fixed the
date after hearing submissions behind closed doors from 10am until 4.30pm.
Meanwhile, Lingam's brother, Thirunama Karasu, through his counsel, Wee Choo
Keong, has formally offered himself as a witness to assist the commission in its
task to ascertain the truth of the contents in the video clip purportedly
featuring Lingam brokering judicial appointments over the phone.
Wee made the application on Jan 18, saying that Thirunama's testimony was
material to establish the close relationship between Lingam and former chief
justice Tun Eusoff Chin, which he claimed was also discussed in the telephone
conversation.
The commission heard submissions from Lingam's lawyer R.Thayalan, Malaysian Bar
representative Christopher Leong and Anwar's counsel, M.Puravelan.
The other four commissioners are former chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri
Steve Shim Lip Kiong, retired Court of Appeal judge Datuk Mahadev Shankar,
former solicitor-general Puan Sri Zaitun Zawiyah Puteh and Professor Emeritus
Datuk Dr Khoo Kay Khim.
