Tonight saw the opening reception hosted by the Law Society of Singapore at the Singapore Cricket Club in conjunction with the 2011 edition of the Malaysia/Singapore Bench and Bar Games.
Among the notable attendees were the Chief Justice of Malaysia, YAA Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki b Tun Azmi, and his Singapore counterpart, Chan Sek Keong, both whom delivered short speeches before dinner was served.
The speeches though short, were rallying cries for each contingent to win this year’s games. After all, at the last Singapore edition in 2009, both sides matched to end with a hard-fought draw. Although Malaysia retained the winning trophy, it was a sobering affair.
This year, the Malaysian team has gotten off to a very promising start, notching wins in the golf event and in hockey. This tenacity was acknowledged by Chan Sek Keong as he attempted to motivate the Singaporean contingent.
No one knows how the next two days will play out, but fortune does favour the brave; and the Malaysian contingent appears to have taken the initiative.
Not just there to play and cheer, a team of web reporters will provide regular updates on the Malaysia/Singapore Bench and Bar Games 2011. For ease of reference, all reports will bear the heading "B&B 42". Watch this space.
