©The Sun (Used by permission) PETALING JAYA: The Bar Council’s human rights committee will organise a “People’s Freedom Walk” on Dec 9, in conjunction with World Human Rights Day on Dec 10. Its chairman, Edmund Bon, said the walk will start from the Sogo complex on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and proceed through Dataran Merdeka to Central Market. “We will congregate in front of the Sogo Complex at 7am. This walk is open to everyone and you are welcome to bring banners highlighting human rights issues that they are concerned about,” he said in a statement. The theme this year is “As I Believe: Freedom of Expression through Art, Music, Culture and Conscience”. Bon said the theme showed the inter-relation of various rights in our daily lives. The second part of the programme begins at Central Market at about 9am, featuring a range of activities. “Among others, a multi-religious panel will discuss conscience rights in the ‘Conversations’ segment titled ‘When Faith Meets Law’. We have invited key religious leaders from the major faiths (Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Taoism) to take part in this session where everyone is encouraged to express their views,” Bon said. He said there would also be performances by home-grown artists and activists like Fahri Azzat, Noreen Ariff, Syamsuriatina Ishak, Lai Chee Hoe, Dipendra Harshad Rai, Dr Wan Zawawi, Amir Muhammad and bands Cassarrah and The Wave.
