KUALA LUMPUR: The Bar Council's Ad Hoc Committee on the Immigration Act is organising a conference on foreign worker issues from Feb 18-19 at the Crystal Crown Hotel in Petaling Jaya.

"Despite the huge presence of migrant workers in the country, the Malaysian Government does not have a comprehensive policy framework to deal with migrant labour," said the committee's chairman Datuk M. Ramachelvam at a press conference here Tuesday.

"We hope to come out with a comprehensive framework to address the various aspects of migrant labour issues," he said.

He said that there were around two million migrant workers in Malaysia, according to some estimates, not counting those who are undocumented.

Titled "Developing a comprehensive policy framework for migrant labour," the conference is co-organised by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Jakarta.
