Abdul Razak Abdul Rahim KLUANG, Mon: Illness makes no difference when it attacks people. It has no religion and all it knows is to attack human beings whose resistance gradually wanes and lawyers are no exception. An ordinary man with no professional qualification would go public with his illness to seek help.

It is really painful to see a professionally qualified person who is helpless because of illness especially a fellow lawyer suffering in pain coupled with the inability to meet medicare expenses and supporting his family.

This is the exact position a member of the Bar is experiencing presently.

Abdul Razak Abdul Rahim is a member of the Bar, having been called to the Bar in 1990. He is married and has three school going children.

Razak has been afflicted with kidney ailment since 1998. He went to Pakistan for a kidney transplant but at no avail.

He is now confined to a wheelchair and needs dialysis four times a week. He also suffers from end renal failure. As a result of his illness he has lost his income although still remains as an advocate and solicitor. Being the sole bread winner, his family is in a pathetic condition.

His plight and his family's was brought to the Johore Bar Committee's attention and thereafter the Malaysian Bar Webmaster's for contribution to assist him.

Razak is indeed helpless. Financially, he is in a impecunious state. He has been in and out of hospital with the help of well-wishers. He needs about RM100,000 to do a kidney transplant in China and unfortunately he does not have the financial means to go there and get it done.

A fellow member is in a dire financial straits due to physical inabilities and it would be helpful if the members would show their sympathy by generously contributing for his medical needs and his family.

(Webmaster: Razak is in the process of applying for assistance from the LawCare Management Fund. But meanwhile, he cannot even afford to pay for the dialysis four times a week. It is hoped that members will contribute generously, at least, to help meet his immediate needs. All contributions should be by way of cheque drawn in the name of "Bar Council" to be forwarded to the attention of the Bar Treasurer, Hj. Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera, Bar Council, No. 13, 15 & 17, Leboh Pasar Besar, 50050 Kuala Lumpur.)

Majlis Berbuka Puasa
written by Will Fung Jui Seng, Monday, October 03 2005 07:40 pm

Hi Richard Wee,

Understand that the KL Bar YLC is organising a Majlis Berbuka Puasa this Friday, 7.10.2005 at Bukit Kiara Resort.

Although this "do" is supposedly not intended to be another charity drive, when a fellow brother in "law" is in need, lets do what we can.

Perhaps we should initiate a charity drive to help Abdul Razak, why not we try to collect money for a start for him? Be it RM1, RM10 or RM100, lets kick start and do something good for our heart and soul, can?

Whoever that comes that night, lets bring some tabungs for donation, in the spirit of giving and sharing for the needies of society, in this case, our very own brother in "law"!

Thanks

Thanks Will for thoughtful suggestion. I agree that something can be done by the young lawyers, who instead of buying someone another round of beer, can put it into helping a fellow member in need. Have a great Friday Buka Puasa!

Dear Will,

The Majlis Berbuka Puasa by KL Bar YLC had announce intentions to have a mini charity drive at the function, but as you rightly said, the 'do' was not meant to be another charity event, since we have already organised a Charity Night on 30th June 2005.

However, En Abdul Razak's plight is something I am personally concern, and once the KL Bar YLC discusses this matter today, we will revert by tomorrow (5th October 2005) on how we can assist him.

To Eunice Lo, just for the record, NO ALCOHOL IS SERVED AT THIS UPCOMING MAJLIS BERBUKA PUASA.

Kindly take note that the KL Bar YLC will be organising a 'pass-the-hat-around' session to try raise some funds for En Abdul Razak during the Majlis Berbuka Puasa on 7th October 2005, at Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club, KL. Hope you can come to the event, and donate to Encik Abdul Razak.
