2nd Asian Mediation Association Conference (24 and 25 Feb 2011) PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 20 October 2010 10:13am
The Bar Council’s Malaysian Mediation Centre (“MMC”) is honoured to have the opportunity to host the 2nd Asian Mediation Association Conference (“AMA”) on 24 and 25 Feb 2011 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

The 1st AMA was hosted by the Singapore Mediation Centre in June 2009, and was attended by approximately 300 participants from various jurisdictions.

The conference programme covers a wide selection of current and noteworthy mediation topics in various practice areas including employment, family matters, foreclosure, intellectual property disputes and franchise.  Renowned speakers from jurisdictions such as the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand and the United States of America, as well as from our own homeland, have been invited to speak at the conference.

 Amongst the Conference’s confirmed distinguished speakers will be:

  • Michael Leathes, Director, International Mediation Institute;
  • Justice Clifford J Wallace, United States Federal Judge;
  • David Newton, Accord Group, Australia;
  • Justice Christine Grice, Judge of the High Court and Court of Appeal of the Cook Islands;
  • YBhg Tan Sri Razali Ismail, former UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy; and
  • YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Ajit Singh, former Secretary General of ASEAN who mediated between Aung San Suu Kyi and the military junta.

  • Since a Mediation Act is expected to come into force early next year, sign up for this great opportunity to find out more about the various fields where mediation is applicable.  Submit your registration forms early to be eligible for the special “early bird” rates, valid until 30 Nov 2010.  AMA members, mediators on the MMC panel, Members of the Bar and pupils in chambers are eligible for a concessionary rate of RM900.
