The Arbitration Subcommittee held its first meeting on 1 July 2011.

The Subcommittee, together with Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration, organised a talk titled “Amendments to the Arbitration Act 2005:  An Interaction between the Legislature and the Courts”, which was held at the Bar Council Auditorium on 3 Aug 2011 and was attended by 64 participants. 

The Subcommittee was pleased to note that most of Bar Council’s proposals, which focused mainly on errors and ambiguities in the drafting of the amendments to the Arbitration Act 2005 (“2005 Act”), have been taken into account.  As the Subcommittee will embark on a general review of the 2005 Act, it is seeking input from all Subcommittee members on areas of the 2005 Act that require amendment, or where additional provisions are necessary.

Members of the Bar are welcome to submit their feedback on the 2005 Act, or any issues relating to arbitration, for the Subcommittee’s consideration.  Kindly email all feedback to Marianna Laureen Tan at ml.tan@malaysianbar.org.my.
