The Malaysian Bar badminton team proved to be too strong for our Singaporean counterparts. Despite missing some key players, the Malaysian team rallied themselves to an impressive 5-0 win over Singapore!

The match was held at the modern Bishan Sports Complex.  The Singaporean badminton team was formidable, but the Malaysian team gained the advantage at crucial rallies in the game to pick up vital points to edge ahead.

The badminton team remains amongst the Malaysian Bar's strongest sports teams, and it is hoped that they will remain strong in the years to come.  Kudos to our shuttlers!

Tonight saw the opening reception hosted by the Law Society of Singapore at the Singapore Cricket Club in conjunction with the 2011 edition of the Malaysia/Singapore Bench and Bar Games.

Among the notable attendees were the Chief Justice of Malaysia, YAA Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki b Tun Azmi, and his Singapore counterpart, Chan Sek Keong, both whom delivered short speeches before dinner was served.

The speeches though short, were rallying cries for each contingent to win this year’s games.  After all, at the last Singapore edition in 2009, both sides matched to end with a hard-fought draw.  Although Malaysia retained the winning trophy, it was a sobering affair.

PETALING JAYA (April 28, 2011): More givers than takers were detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last year.

The 2010 MACC Annual Report revealed that its Ops Perangi Pemberi Rasuah from April to end-2010 saw 414 people, including 125 foreigners arrested last year for offering bribes ranging from RM3 to RM35,000.

The receivers include civil servants, notably law enforcement officers.

“The drop in the number of recipients shows the trend in the civil service to refuse bribes,” said the report.

It added that 1,220 investigations papers were opened including six high-profile cases from a total of 5,646 complaints lodged last year.
