KUALA LUMPUR (June 9, 2010): Orang Asli Affairs Department (JHEOA) director-general Datuk Sani Mistam has confirmed that there have been changes to the top management of the orang asli hospital in Gombak.
In response to theSun's report yesterday, Sani in a statement said that the hospital's director Dr Akmal Dahaman has accepted an offer from the Health Ministry to undergo a four-year Federal Training Award (Rehabilitation Treatment) at University Malaya from this month onwards.
"Therefore, he was not 'replaced' as mentioned in the report, but he left because he is furthering his studies," Sani said.
The PDP is still a step in the right direction and a good beginning, although it lacks the right to claim for compensation in the case of breaches that cause damage or distress.
AFTER a decade of delay, the Personal Data Protection Bill 2009 (PDP) has finally been tabled and passed by Parliament. This is a very important piece of legislation as it would affect almost every one in the country.
Generally, the enactment of the PDP is laudable. Prior to this, Malaysia adopted the sectoral approach in protecting personal data but this approach proved inadequate.
It is time to have a comprehensive legislation to cover all aspects of personal data protection.
PUTRAJAYA: The Foreign Affairs Ministry is urging all nations appalled by the deadly Israeli raid on the Gaza-bound humanitarian aid ship the MV Mavi Marmara to drag the Zionist regime to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said yesterday that Wisma Putra had sent out messages to all Organisation of the Islamic Conference member countries, the Gulf Cooperation Council and Western countries that had expressed disgust over the killing of nine activists aboard the ship, urging them to unite.
"What the Zionist regime has done is clearly against all international laws and we have to stand up against this with one voice.
KUALA LUMPUR: Animal lovers, activists, a Senator and a beauty queen were among those who gathered in front of the Indian High Commission here to protest the plan by an Indian drug company to build an animal testing laboratory in Malacca.
The Ethical treatment of Animals (PETA) drove home their point by using a “rat” mascot.
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Selangor chairman Christine Chin, handed a memorandum to High Commissioner Vijay Gokhale, which was received by Second Secretary Birbald Anand.
KUALA LUMPUR (June 9, 2010): THE Parliamentary Special Committee on Corruption wants the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to be given the power to prosecute so that it can be more efficient.
Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad said today the MACC only has the power to investigate but no power to prosecute as this lies with the public prosecutor.
“We know that this has been a grievance among the people. MACC can only investigate but cannot prosecute because the power lies with the attorney-general, as per Article 145 of the Federal Constitution," he told reporters after a meeting of the committee.

PETALING JAYA, 9 June 2010: The Jabatan Hal Ehwal Orang Asli (JHEOA) has denied allegations that a hospital in Gombak has been involved in the conversion of Orang Asli to Islam.
“The Gombak JHEOA hospital functions as a medical and health centre for the Orang Asli community. Allegations that the hospital was a centre to systematically convert Orang Asli to Islam are entirely untrue,” JHEOA’s public relations unit said in a press statement e-mailed to The Nut Graph.
The department, which falls under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, stressed that conversion activities by hospital staff were “personal actions”.

Dear President,
While you were commendably quick to denounce Israel's brutal attack on The Free Gaza Flotilla (your press release of 1 June), you were unfair in claiming that the UK, among others, continued to "condone the severe and recurring acts of state terrorism carried out by Israel." In fact, the opposite is the case. Our Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary were no less rapid in criticising the attack, and are party to the EU statement which condemned Israel's actions against the flotilla.
